I'm-a thunderstruck
I had no idea just how much creativity was going to be required to get into the classes I need. I am at the back of the bus in terms of registration priority at CSU Hayward. Nonetheless, I managed to get on a computer within an hour of my reg time Monday morning, and behold! both the classes I needed to take this summer were ALREADY FULL. Topping that, one of my fall classes was full and the other two said I didn't have a necessary prereq. Being no dummy, I immediately made tracks for the department office, where I got to enjoy the spectacle of the department head and the admin being completely dumbfounded by the size of the waiting lists. I extracted assistance with the prereq errors, and promises about spaces opening up.

So here's what it looks like now:

Chem 2200 Quantitative Analysis - waitlisted (with 18 people on the waitlist). Not likely they'll add lab spaces here, as it's offered in the fall. Damnit.
Chem 3303 Organic Chemistry - waitlisted with 8 people on the waitlist. I have been promised that I (and any other current 3302 students) will be added no matter what. It's a year-long series with a cumulative final, and if I miss it in summer, it won't be offered until next spring.
Engl 4720 Mythology - waitlisted with 2 people on the list, so I should be able to get in. Can only take it if I cannot add Quant (schedule conflict). Fulfills C4 general education requirement.
Phil 3510 Human Rights - enrolled! Meets Saturdays 9am-12:30. A C4 class, will only take if I can't take Mythology, otherwise drop.
Soc 3425 Prejudice and Discrimination - enrolled. Meets Thursdays 6:30p to 10p, which is rather too late for me. Fulfills D4. Will likely drop, as I am enrolled in a online D4 class for the fall, but keeping on schedule for paranoia's sake for the time being.

That's right, the only two classes I've succeeded in enrolling in for Summer are classes I plan to drop. Geesh.

Chem 2200 Quantitative Analysis - enrolled (whew). Required for my Chem minor. If I don't get into the summer section, which is likely, I'll take it in the fall.
Chem 4411 General Biochemistry - enrolled.
Chem 3511 Physical Chemistry - waitlisted, but as this is a lecture class, I'm assured spaces will open up more or less on demand. It's lab space that's precious.
ES 3333 Ethnic / Minority Politics. enrolled online course, fulfills D4.

Funny, this rereads as a dry summary that doesn't begin to convey the last 1.5 hours of cross-checking in three browser windows -- the class schedule, a separate list of the C4/D4 approved courses, and the third window where the actual registration happens.

Tired now. But at least I can update Life Balance with the academic plans for the next two quarters.

Geeze, you'd think I was majoring in Chemistry or something. Where are the Biology classes?

Current Mood: optimisticoptimistic

Holy mackerel. I'm amazed it's so difficult to get anywhere.

This whole business of register register register, throw things up in the air, drop drop drop is very weird. I don't remember schedule conflicts being a huge deal back in the day, and the only classes that were routinely oversubscribed were the really fun lab classes (I remember not getting into one on metalworking).

C4 requirement? Sounds like you're majoring in plastic explosives. (Yeah, i know, don't give you ideas ;))

I'm glad you got help with the prereqs. Whatever I can do to help, I will (which is nothing about the registration, alas.)

Right now I'm nervously watching one of my fall classes to see if they'll cancel it for low enrollment. Trying to schedule classes gives /fits/.

Well, unless worrying is actually good for you, you can probably stop fretting at least until the fall reg period in the fall *opens*. :-)

Geez, that's rough.

I'm just taking one class per term, and since I'm just starting and there's not much in the way of prerequesites it's not too hard so far. The biggest problem I'm going to run into is that I have my daughter on Monday and Thursday nights, and eventually I'm going to have to schedule classes on those nights -- though I'm taking a three-week grantwriting class right now that meets Monday through Thursday, and her dad is being very accommodating about watching her on my nights for that period.

Of course, now he's asking to do some night switching, and I can't in good conscience refuse, though it means we won't get to do something we usually do together every summer (attend a free concert series). Oh well.
